Tom Jeffrey's classic Australian film, THE ODD ANGRY SHOT, is set in the late 1960s during the brutal war Australians shared with the United States: the struggle for Vietnam. Harry (Graham Kennedy), a hard-edged Special Air Service Corporal, meets a new company of soldiers during his second tour in Vietnam. There's the naïve Bill (John Jarratt), the easy-going Bung (John Hargreaves), the blunt Rogers (Bryan Brown), the pragmatic Dawson (Graeme Blundell), and the youthful and innocent Scott (Ian Gilmour). Because of their training as professional soldiers from Australia's toughest Army unit, these men believe they can deal with any situation. They pass the time playing practical jokes, getting into drunken brawls and humoring themselves to keep their minds off the war. But, when the first odd angry shot rings out, and an enemy mortar barrage hits their camp causing many casualties, the men realize their protective shield of humor is no defense at all against the harsh realities of armed combat. |

Jericho "Action" Jackson is a Detroit police sergeant who was demoted from lieutenant for almost tearing the arm off of sexually violent sociopath Sean Dellaplane, whose father is Peter Dellaplane, a major car manufacturer. But Dellaplane himself is violent as well. Dellaplane kills his wife Patrice by shooting her. And then he plants her body in Jackson's apartment, framing Jackson. Dellaplane won't miss Patrice very much, because he has a drug-addicted mistress named Sydney Ash. He keeps Sydney hooked with a free supply of heroin. Jackson suspects Dellaplane of masterminding a murder spree against local officials from the auto workers' union. Dellaplane's mission is to gain a political power base and choose the next president of the United States. Because of what happened to Dellaplane's son Sean, Dellaplane has taken a particular dislike to Jackson. Jackson gets Sydney's help in going after Dellaplane. A Detroit cop goes up against an evil car company owner. The businessman has been killing auto union representatives and replacing them with his own men, but Action Jackson is watching and stalking his every move. When the executive tries to frame Jackson for murder, he trips up and the cop finally catches him. Jackson is helped by a Motown singer who first sides with the auto man, but then switches her alligence, and affections, to the cop. An auto tycoon wants to become a political kingmaker and only a Harvard law graduate turned police officer by the name of Jackson stands in his way. With the help of a nightclub singer, Jackson starts a one-man crusade to stop the tycoon's destructive course. |

The brilliant, cacophonicjazz score and unusual camera angles work to create a real feeling of menace, and there's rich attention paid to period detail, and eerie lighting. |
