Peter Chan - 2002 |
Horreur Asiatique |
Street Date 24/04/2006 |
Publisher: Lions Gate |
USA |

The follow-up to the grisly and chilling THREE EXTREMES, this release presents three more short films directed by three members of the New Asian Horror movement. In 'Memories,' Kim Jee-Woon, director of the macabre and beautiful A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, tells a story of a woman with amnesia wandering the streets while her husband tries to find her--but instead discovers a mutilated corpse. In 'The Wheel,' antique wooden puppets carry an ancient curse that results in fire, pain, death, and the demonic possession of a little girl. And Peter Ho-Sun Chan (director of 'Dumplings' in the first THREE EXTREMES) tells a story of a father who, while searching for his missing son, encounters a lunatic living with his dead wife. |

Martin Murphy - 2005 |
Horreur Anglo-saxon |
Street Date 22/04/2006 |
Publisher: Maverick |
USA |

Avoiding Hollywood clichés, and displaying an imagination that is triple the size of his budget, Australian director Martin Murphy, in his first feature, takes on a teen psycho-thriller. Four teenagers fresh from high school and looking for a good time-- Emily (Lenka Kripac), Tracy (Alex Vaughan), Garry (Leon Ford), and Brad (Charlie Garber)--head off to a deserted island against their parents' wishes to indulge in sun, surfing, and sex. The mysteries of life and love are soon occluded by the growing realization that they are not alone. A meeting with the leering beachcomber Zippo (Steve Le Marquand), who warns them to get off the island, increases their discomfort. By the time the kids decide to vacate the place, however, they find that they are trapped in a dreamlike time warp where they are faced with some rather brutal revelations. The slow pace and the mysterious nature of the menacing force allows tension to build and characters to establish themselves, and the low-budget look is used in a way that recalls THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. |

Eli Roth - 2005 |
Horreur Anglo-saxon |
Street Date 17/04/2006 |
Publisher: Columbia |
USA |

Presented by genre master Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill, Vol. 1 & 2) and directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever), Hostel is a shocking and relentless film in the tradition of Saw about two American backpackers (Jay Hernandez, Friday Night Lights and Derek Richardson, Dumb and Dumberer) in Europe who find themselves lured in as victims of a murder-for-profit business. Paxton and Josh, two college friends, are lured by a fellow traveler to what's described as a nirvana for American backpackers - a particular hostel in an out-of-the-way Slovakian town stocked with Eastern European women as desperate as they are gorgeous. The two friends arrive and soon easily pair off with exotic beauties Natalya and Svetlana. In fact, too easily... Initially distracted by the good time they're having, the two Americans quickly find themselves trapped in an increasingly sinister situation that they will discover is as wide and as deep as the darkest, sickest recess of human nature itself - if they survive. |
