The King and The Clown director Lee Joon Ik returns to the Joseon era with the riveting period actioner Blades of Blood. Based on a comic by Park Heung Yong, the film matches up two of Korea's most acclaimed and charismatic actors, Cha Seung Won (Secret) and Hwang Jung Min (A Man Who Was Superman), in a duel to the death. The two stars act up a storm as swordsmen who once shared the same dream, but war, politics, and power drive them down opposite paths of blood and betrayal. One of the most anticipated Korean films of 2010, Blades of Blood also co-stars Baek Sung Hyun (Our School ET) and Han Ji Hye (My Boyfriend Is Type-B). In the late 16th century, the Joseon kingdom is thrown into chaos by the threat of a Japanese invasion. Royal descendant Lee Mong Hwak (Cha Seung Won) and legendary blind swordsman Hwang Jung Hak (Hwang Jung Min) were once allies who dreamed of stamping out social inequality and corruption, and creating a better world. Persecuted by the court, Lee forms a rebel army in hopes of overthrowing the inept king and taking the throne himself. Lee is willing to kill recklessly and betray former comrades to forge his bloody path to the palace, but Hwang Jung Hak stands in the way.

Includes : Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet and Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women. Three spacecraft set out for Venus, two arrive, one commanded by Caotain Masha (Ignatova) which remains in orbit and one that lands on the planet. The rest is a fast-paced adventure story, told with considerable humor, involving volcanic eruptions, giant animals and hostile plants. The sets are stunningly designed with outlandish color schemes rendering the uncanny alienness of the Venusian landscapes as well as the spectacular aspects of space travel itself. The appearance of a Venusian is wisely delayed to the very end, and even then only suggested as being "just like us". As in all popular space operas, there is a robot (called John) who occasionally goes out of control. Here he is given to talking gibberish and playing forties dance music, a more appropriate musical accompaniment to space fantasies than the monumentally majestic waltz of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). The result is the best straightfoward, unpretentious sf space travel movie made in the USSR.
Unrest starts at a factory. The last straw was the suicide of a worker accused of stealing a micrometer. An inevitable fine and a many-month payment of the debt for the lost instrument would have ended in his death from hunger anyway. The dead man’s comrades go on strike. The resentful crowd’s actions are directed by the strike committee. They make a decision not to work until the strikers’ demands are met: raising wages, improving labor conditions. The working-class settlement is threatened with hunger. The strike committee calls for patience and fortitude. To provoke the crisis, the management uses local hooligans. Brought to the point of despair, the crowd goes out in the street, where they’re confronted with the Cossacks…
The Great Consoler is Lev Kuleshov’s most personal film reflecting both the facts of his life and his thoughts about the place of the artist in contemporary reality. It was the only film in the Soviet cinema of those years that raised the question of what role a creative person played in society.
“To create a heroic style, Eisenstein had to go through the montage of eccentric attractions. A parody streak, strong in Eisenstein’s nature, sounds in his first cinematic work - The Strike. It is more subdued in The Battleship Potemkin, but probably will be developed by Eisenstein the engineer in the construction of his future films because gaiety is at the base of the engineering skill in art. (…) The eccentricity of the material, at least the idea of sharp juxtapositions, is coming back to Eisenstein. He inserts automobile races in an agricultural film. I also wanted to add there an x-rayed cow moving across the screen, but Eisenstein turned it down. He is so well provided with his own material that one can make him no present.
1918 – Lev Kuleshov’s directorial debut. This work is extremely important not only for Russian cinema; it became a landmark in the history of the world’s cinematograph. For the first time a specific method of montage had been used in this film, which came to be known later as “Soviet montage”. Despite the fact that Kuleshov’s films had preceded many discoveries of Vertov and Eisenstein, his works are little known outside Russia. Among his students were Vsevolod Pudovkin and Boris Barnet. In the introduction to Kuleshov’s book The Art of Cinema (1928), his former students wrote: “It was on his shoulders that we crossed into the open sea. We make films – Kuleshov made cinematography…”

It was the darkest times in China, when ruthless warlords waged battles to satiate their endless aggression. Millions of lives were perished, and those who survived had only two choices – To kill or be killed. The battalions of warring states Liang and Wei collided in a bloodbath that lasted from dawn till dusk. Only two men were left standing – A FOOT SOLDIER from Liang (Jackie Chan) and the rival GENERAL from Wei (Wang Leehom). The soldier could survive because he’s an expert in playing dead, with a device strapped on his body that could protrude an arrowhead for added realism. The Soldier captured the wounded General, hoping to use the enemy as his exit – By handing the General to the Liang warlord, the Soldier could be honorably discharged and returned home to his peaceful life. The young General, though taken captive, was always condescending towards the Soldier. The two men were often at loggerheads during the long and winding journey.
