Six friends find themselves at the center of a culinary nightmare during a weekend trip to Blackstock Farm in the British countryside. With no responsibilities and home-cooked meals from their matronly host Mrs. Obadiah, it seemed like the perfect recipe for relaxation. Tensions start to run high, however, when one member of the group fails to return for dinner, and a mysterious cloaked figure is seen wandering through the woods. By the time these clueless vacationers realize that their hosts are cannibals, the oven is preheated and the table has already been set.
Independent writer/director Robbie Bryan makes his feature filmmaking debut with this thriller about a series of gruesome murders that all tie in to a popular social networking website. In the aftermath of a tragic shooting involving a jilted lover, eight members of the FaceSpace chat-room are being methodically slaughtered in their own homes. Perhaps Sandra Wilson (Terri Colombino), a thirty-something professional with a decidedly mysterious past, holds the key to solving this bloody mystery. But she's not the only suspect, because unstable Bostonian Janet King (Miranda Kwok), ambitious Professor Uberoth (William Forsythe), haunted model Lindsay Jefferies (Gabrielle Anwar), phone sex operator "Meltnurmouth" (Jane Dashow), and special effects artist Mark Sanders (Wilson Jermaine Heredia) all seem to have a motivation for murder. Meanwhile, as FBI Agents Otis Washington (Tony Todd) and Lori Romano (Brooke Lewis) race to capture the killer, Lori's brother Joe (Frank Grillo) realizes that he may hold the clue that will crack the case wide open.
H.P. Lovecraft was the forefather of modern horror fiction having inspired such writers as Stephen King, Robert Bloch and Neil Gaiman. The influence of his Cthulhu mythos can be seen in film (Re-animator, Hellboy, and Alien), games (The Call of Cthulhu role playing enterprise), music (Metallica, Iron Maiden) and pop culture in general. But what led an Old World, xenophobic gentleman to create one of literature s most far-reaching mythologies? What attracts even the minds of the 21st century to these stories of unspeakable abominations and cosmic gods?
In this graphically shocking and internationally acclaimed debut feature by Belgian writer/director Peter Van Hees, Eline Kuppens stars as a dedicated professional runner sidelined by an infection. But when she impulsively decides to move into her new boyfriend’s high-rise apartment on the outskirts of Antwerp, she will discover that his ‘perfect’ home may hold strange powers and even darker secrets: Their sexual passion becomes extreme. Her body undergoes bizarre changes. The previous tenant disappeared under mysterious circumstances. And deep within the building’s dark basement lurks an ancient evil that waits to be reborn. Welcome to a neighborhood where obsession meets madness, history is written in blood, and modern horror is alive and well in a place called LEFT BANK.
A frenetic, bloody look at mass murder and the mass media, director Oliver Stone's extremely controversial film divided critics and audiences with its mixture of over-the-top violence and bitter cultural satire. At the center of the film, written by Stone and Quentin Tarantino, among others, are Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory (Juliette Lewis), a young couple united by their desire for each other and their common love of violence. Together, they embark on a record-breaking, exceptionally gory killing spree that captivates the sensation-hungry tabloid media. Their fame is ensured by one newsman, Wayne Gale (Robert Downey, Jr.), who reports on Mickey and Mallory for his show, American Maniacs. Even the duo's eventual capture by the police only increases their notoriety, as Gale develops a plan for a Super Bowl Sunday interview that Mickey and Mallory twist to their own advantage. Visually overwhelming, Robert Richardson's hyperkinetic cinematography switches between documentary-style black-and-white, surveillance video, garishly colored psychedelia, and even animation in a rapid-fire fashion that mirrors the psychosis of the killers and the media-saturated culture that makes them popular heroes. The film's extreme violence -- numerous edits were required to win an R rating -- became a subject of debate, as some critics asserted that the film irresponsibly glorified its murderers and blamed the filmmakers for potentially inciting copy-cat killings. Defenders argued that the film attacks media obsession with violence and satirizes a sensationalistic, celebrity-obsessed society. Certain to provoke discussion, Natural Born Killers will thoroughly alienate many viewers with its shock tactics, chaotic approach, and disturbing subject matter, while others will value the combination of technical virtuosity and dark commentary on the modern American landscape.
A wounded military aviator (Robert Pattinson) convalescing in a remote Wales mansion attempts to discern whether he's actually losing his mind or his psychiatrist is attempting to crack his fragile psyche. Shadowed by his darkened past and plagued with horrific visions, the airman clings to sanity as his reality becomes warped beyond recognition.
